Reading Worksheets about JapanFree printable PDFs with answer keys · B1–B2

Every worksheet here is a piece of writing about Japan, followed by questions and a full answer key. They are made for intermediate learners of English (CEFR B1–B2), for teenagers and adults, and they work equally well in an ESL classroom or on a kitchen table.

The passages are written to be read, not skimmed: they separate what is actually recorded from what was added later, so the comprehension questions have something real to ask about.

About these worksheets

What is in every PDF

A reading passage divided into short numbered paragraphs, so that questions can point at an exact place in the text. Then four parts of questions: multiple choice, written answers in full sentences, vocabulary matching, and two open questions with no single right answer. The last page is the answer key, with sample answers and a short note for the teacher.

Why Japan

Because the material is genuinely interesting and most learners already have half a picture of it — usually the wrong half. A reading task works best when it can correct something the reader thought they already knew.

Using them in class

Print one copy per student and keep the answer key. The passage pages and the question pages are separate, so a passage can be read first and the questions handed out afterwards. The open questions at the end are written to be used as a short discussion or a writing follow-up.

Copying and sharing

You may print and photocopy these worksheets freely for your home, your school and your classroom. Please do not resell them, and please do not re-upload the PDFs to another website — link to this page instead.

The Japanese site

This site is mainly a Japanese-language site: it publishes free reading and kanji worksheets for Japanese primary school children. The English worksheets above are a small separate section.
